Liverpool agree fee for Charlie Adam with Blackpool

Kenny Dalglish’s revamp of Liverpool’s squad is gathering pace after the Anfield club confirmed they have agreed a deal – believed to be worth around £9 million – to sign the Blackpool captain Charlie Adam.

The Scotland international will become Dalglish’s second signing of what is expected to be a busy summer after the £16 million capture of Jordan Henderson from Sunderland.
The 60-year-old is also believed to be keen to recruit a central defender, a left back, a goalkeeper and a forward as he bids to rebuild Liverpool’s squad.
Adam had been targeted by Dalglish upon his return to Merseyside in January, but Blackpool were simply unwilling to allow the club’s star player to leave, rejecting an offer from Liverpool worth around £8.4 million.
Karl Oyston, Blackpool’s chairman, made clear to Liverpool’s Director of Football, Damien Comolli, that he would have to better that offer to land the player this summer, despite Adam’s current employers being relegated from the Premier League and the Scot’s contract having just one year left to run.
After weeks of talks, though, the two clubs have now agreed a fee and a statement released by Liverpool this afternoon confirmed that Adam, signed by Ian Holloway for just £500,000 two years ago, will now travel to Anfield for a medical and to discuss personal terms. The deal could be completed as soon as tomorrow, and Adam may well join his new team-mates on their pre-season tour of the Far East, for which Liverpool depart on Sunday
