Pope Benedict XVI is facing prosecution for 'breaking the law' while on a drive in Germany. Although the Popemobile was driven at snail's pace but, according to a German lawsuit, that didn't give his holiness an excuse for not wearing a seatbelt.An unnamed person has filed the lawsuit against the leader of the Roman Catholic Church for breaking the law by not wearing the seat belt during a visit to the city of Freiburg in September.
Video evidence would prove Benedict XVI was not wearing his seatbelt 'for more than hour', the unnamed plaintiff's lawyer Johannes Sundermann reportedly said.
He faced a fine of around 30 pounds if convicted, Mr Sundermann added.
"The Pope is head of state of the Vatican, so it is highly likely he will be granted diplomatic immunity," the Daily Mail quoted another German lawyer as saying.
One hundred thousands well-wishers welcomed the Pope as he drove around Freiburg; at one point, he stopped to bless a child.
